Maple Engineering is a plumbing, mechanical and electrical (PME) engineering design firm located in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. In operation since 2011, we have a wide range of experience in new developments and renovations throughout the United States. Zack L. Tomlin, PE

Zack is a graduate of NC State University and a North Carolina native.  He has been around the construction industry all his life as the son of a contractor and a childhood watcher of “This Old House.”  After graduating from NC State, Zack worked for multiple PME firms in the RDU area before joining Maple Engineering in 2011. Zack is a licensed engineer in several states and holds an NCEES record.

Dustin M. Metayer, PE

Dustin grew up in New England, graduating from the University of New Hampshire and taking off in the world of aerospace engineering. After a few years, he wanted a career that felt more grounded, and moved to Raleigh to begin a journey in HVAC. Now a PE in both the Carolinas, he enjoys all the aspects of PME consulting, and makes it a goal to visit as many completed projects as possible. In his free time, Dustin likes to work on his barista skills, and uses the caffeine to explore Raleigh by foot and bike.

Drew P. Adams, PE

Drew started working with Maple after graduating from NC State. Drew started his time at Maple with Mechanical Design and has since expanded into Plumbing Design and Project Management. When he’s at home, Drew enjoys playing music and stressing about the latest NC State game with his friends and family.

Steven T. Loeb, PE
Steven’s Traeger pellet grill helps him do one of his favorite hobbies – smoking different delicious meats. If he’s not behind the grill, you may find him at a soccer game or hanging out with his family.
Dana W. Beasley, PE

Originally from Minnesota, Dana moved to North Carolina after completing a degree in Mechanical Design Technology. After 8 years as a draftsman for a PME firm in Wilmington, NC, Dana moved to Raleigh to finish his engineering degree at North Carolina State University. Since joining Maple Engineering, Dana has completed his degree and is working towards his PE license. Dana enjoys trips to the beach and mountains and spending time with friends and family.

Nathan P. Birkedal, PE

Nathan is a licensed engineer and graduate of NC State University, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He joined Maple after graduation in 2016, and has specialized in Electrical Design and Project Management. Nathan’s interest and passion for real estate, engineering, and working with others led him to the PME field. Outside of the office Nathan enjoys time with family, playing basketball, golf, and listening to a good podcast.

Robert S. Alfaro

Rob joined the Maple team at the end of 2012 and has worked his way up from CAD technician, to PME designer and finally to Project Manager.  Outside of work Rob enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. He also enjoys working on, detailing and racing his car, PC gaming, and reading a good book. 

Kelly N. Graustein
After living several different places, Kelly wanted to make Raleigh, NC her home. A former RN, she spends her free time traveling, reading, and skiing.
Richard D. Groat III

Richard moved from the Detroit suburbs to study Engineering Design at NC State University. Following his appreciation of programs such as AutoCad and Revit, he joined Maple in 2013. Now an AutoCad Certified Professional, he focuses his attention on various trades specializing in Plumbing. When he is not managing projects, you can find him at local car shows and the occasional dog park with his husky Luna.

Caleb W. Haselton
Caleb is a lover of good coffee and tea, running on greenway trails, and learning different foreign languages. Recently, his language focus has been on biblical Greek and Hebrew.
Richard M. Hayes
Ricky (as we know him) enjoys playing recreational sports – softball, hockey, kickball, and more. He is an Eagle Scout, which has led him to give back to the Scouting community and pursue outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and camping.
Jovanno J. Lightbourne
Jo enjoys writing stories and poetry and has even shared his poetry at a handful of open mic nights. He also enjoys learning about different cultures and participated in every sport his high school offered.
Steven D. Scopano
An avid outdoorsman, Steven likes to spend his weekends either on the water or in the woods. Other hobbies include following the Boston Red Sox and playing video games.
Heath B. Slabach

Heath joined Maple Engineering shortly after finishing his studies at NC State, where he received a B.S. in Operations and Supply Chain Management. Since then, he has helped keep the daytoday operations of Maple on track and improve its processes. Heath loves playing basketball, disc golf, and music on his guitar. He and his wife Mary Ella are members of The Summit Church and enjoy exploring the city together.

Courtney N. Sparr
After having her son, Wyatt, in early 2020, Courtney transitioned to a part-time role at Maple. She is an advocate for all things sweet potato flavored and is known for working unique flavors into her cookies for Maple’s annual Cookie Contest.
Nick H. Veit
Hanging out with Nick will quickly lead you into the great outdoors. Mountain biking, camping, and snowboarding help keep this Appalachian State grad going.
Lori M. White

Lori joined Maple in 2017, bringing with her experience in office administration and HR. She has lived in Raleigh since 2008 and has enjoyed witnessing the city’s growth and getting to see how Maple has contributed to its advancement. Outside of work, Lori enjoys spending time with friends and family, going for walks at NCMA and the American Tobacco Trails and taking quick weekend trips to the mountains.
